Atkinson Tomato
Heirloom  Slicer  Red  Indeterminate  75 days
From Gary Millwood.  "Vigorous, heavy foliage, firm, smooth light red flattened globes with
green shoulders, meaty, 6-16 ounces.  Good color and flavor. First breeder, Auburn University,
Auburn, Alabama.  Out of production for some years, my friend Ella found some seeds and thus
saved this variety.
Aunt Gertie's Gold        Heirloom  Slicer  Yellow  Indeterminate  80
days

real flavor punch, much more intense than other golds. Very tomatoey.  A Virginia heirloom
found by Chuck Wyatt."

80 days

tint of yellow and have a pink blush underneath that extends inside the flesh.  The flavor is sweet,
yet spicy and quite delicious.  Fruit weighs from 12 to 16 ozs., and has the smoothest shape of
any large green tomato."

salads."
Beauty        Open Pollinated  Slicer  Red  Indeterminate  75 days
New to me this year, I fell for the way it was described as having the old beefsteak size, looks
and great taste, but early enough to be sure to ripen in Oregon.  Not only is the flavor good, but it
will keep well after being harvested.
Beaverlodge Plum        Open Pollinated  Roma  Red  Determinate  55
days
Territorial Seed Co. reads, "Not only were they one of the earliest maturing varieties, but also the
plants were so loaded with tomatoes that there seemed to be more fruit than leaves!  … tend to
creep rather than grow tall … perfect in a hanging basket or patio container ..
. rich and balanced
flavor".   Plum or roma shaped fruit, 2.5 inches long.

Territorial Seed Co. reads, "Not only were they one of the earliest maturing varieties, but also the

Beefmaster        Hybrid  Slicer  Red  Indeterminate  80 days
Gurney's Seeds & Nursery says, "Fruits often weigh up to 2 pounds.  Meaty tomatoes big
enough to overlap burgers!  Nearly seedless, with rich flavor.  Great slicer."
Bellstar        Heirloom  Paste  Red  Determinate  70 days
"Extremely productive paste tomato has fruit almost twice the size of regular plum types.  4 to 5
oz. tomatoes are borne on compact plants that become nearly covered in fruit.  Tomatoes are
resistant to cracking and excellent for paste, canning, or juice."
Better Boy        Hybrid  Slicer  Red  Indeterminate  75 days
Rugged vines produce large crops of bright red, 12 to 16 oz. smooth, flavorful fruit.  Similar to
Big Boy, but with additional disease resistance.  Firm and perfect for slicing.  One of the best
tasting, best producing garden tomatoes available anywhere.
Big Beef        Hybrid  Salad  Red  Indeterminate  73 days
All-American winner combines old fashioned tomato flavor with high tech disease resistance and
large, award winning fruits up to 10 to 12 oz.  Produces abundant yields of attractive, uniform,
full sized fruits right up to frost.
Big Boy        Hybrid  Slicer  Red  Indeterminate  78 days
One of the first hybrid tomatoes to be developed for the home gardener, almost 50 years ago.
One plant can produce over a bushel of large beefy fruit often weighing over 1 lb.
Big Rainbow        Heirloom  Slicer  Bi-color  Indeterminate  85 days
"What an astonishing feast for the eyes! The flesh inside is marbled with red in the bottom half of
the fruit. It has a big, lumpy beefsteak shape with a very mild and sweet flavor. It's a knockout
on a platter with slices of our other tomato varieties. The large fruits (often 22 ounces) are borne
on tall plants."  Burpee.com
Big Raspberry        Heirloom  Salad  Red  Indeterminate  75 days
New to me and Tomato Grower's Supply this year.  I couldn't resist trying it when I read in their
catalog, "Perhaps the name comes from the fruit's rosy pink color or from the way it covers the
plant like raspberries on the bush.  These meaty sweet tomatoes become 6 to 10 ozs. and really
load up on vigorous potato-leaf plants."
Big Zac        Hybrid  Slicer  Red  Indeterminate  80 days
Produces tomatoes up to 4 to 6 lbs.  Meaty and delicious, very disease resistant, a cross between
a red and pink heirloom variety.
Big Zebra        Open Pollinated  Slicer  Bicolored  Indeterminate  85
days

Tomato Growers Supply 2005 catalog reads, "A tomato that is red and green-striped is so
unusual that it's safe to say that you've probably never seen anything like it before.  Although
deep red and green outside, its interior is green with pink extending up into the middle. ... Fruit is

"Dark Brown-red tomatoes are large, 10-12 oz., and very richly flavored with a hint of saltiness.
Color is darker in hot weather, and fruit seems to set well even in the heat.  Prone to cracking,
but a very heavy producer."  Tomato Growers Supply
Black Plum        Heirloom  Cherry  Black  Indeterminate  82 days
Tomato Growers Supply 2005 catalog reads, "Small elongated oval fruits are deep mahogany and
sweet and fruity.  These are small, tear-drop shaped morsels of sweetness, wonderful for
snacking off the vine or for adding to salads.  6-foot tall plants produce a steady, large crop.
This is a unique and very tasty variety."
Black Prince        Heirloom  Salad  Black  Indeterminate  80 days

free, very juicy.
Black Sea Man          Salad  Bicolored  Determinate  75 days
Seed Savers Exchange 2007 catalog reads, "Small plants with medium-sized deep brown fruits,
rich flavor.  Looks incredibly odd when blanched and peeled, revealing skeleton-like veins under
the skin.  Potato leaf, but determinate."
Black Tula        Heirloom  Salad  Black  Indeterminate  80 days
A robust Russian heirloom and perhaps the largest of the dramatic blacks with dark green
shoulders.  Slightly flattened fruits will grow 3-5 inches in diameter.

full tomato flavor and exceptional dark red color.  Fruits are borne in clusters and average 4 oz."
Blue Fruit        Hybrid  Salad  Black  Indeterminate  75 days
New to me this year.  Here is how Burpee describes their new variety, "The deep burgandy color,
with undertones of purplish-black, is as rich as the flavor.  We find it high in both sugars and
acid, creating a sweet, strong, complex flavor that is hard to beat.  The 6-8 oz. pear-shaped fruits
are just large enough for slicing into salads..."
Bonny Best        Open Pollinated  Salad  Red  Indeterminate  75 days
Smooth meaty, dark red fruits are excellent for canning or eating fresh.  Up to 8 ozs. in size.  An

Medium size, delicious flavor, very productive.
Brandy Boy        Hybrid  Slicer  Red  Indeterminate  78 days
Recommended by a customer in 2006, I goofed and failed to get it on the plant list even though I
had started some.  They turned out to be one of the delights of my garden last year.  Wonderful
flavor packed in very attractive large red fruits.  Burpee recomends caging for highet yields and
best quality fruit.
Brandywine        Heirloom  Slicer  Pink  Indeterminate  85 days
Has the flavor to which all other tomatoes are compared.  This is the Amish heirloom that started
all the excitement.  An indeterminate, potato-leafed variety with a sweet, rich, slightly spicy
flavor.  The fruits are large, lobed, and slightly irregular.
Brandywine OTV        Heirloom  Slicer  Red  Indeterminate  85 days
"OTV Brandywine is a strain of Brandywine that came from a natural cross between Yellow
Brandywine and an unknown red tomato.    These tomatoes are red, foliage is potato-leaved, and
yield is often greater than regular Brandywine."  Tomato Growers Supply

85 days

Tomato Growers Supply 2005 catalog reads, "Many gardeners consider this strain the best
Brandywine with fruit that is superior in taste and smoothness.  Its tomatoes are indeed special, 1
to 2 lb. pink beefsteaks with the delectably complex, rich, sweet flavor that has made
Brandywine justifiably famous."
Brandywine Yellow       Heirloom  Slicer  Yellow  Indeterminate  85 days

"Large yellow fruit of exceptional quality, creamy texture and gourmet taste.  Fruit size is from
12 to 24 oz., and vines have potato-leaved foliage.  An extremely good-tasting tomato and one
that is especially beautiful." Tomato Growers Supply
Brandywine Yellow Platfoot Strain        Heirloom  Slicer  Yellow
Indeterminate  85 days

Yellow Brandywine is my favorite yellow tomato because of its taste and size.  Most yellows are
sweet and mild.  This one if full of "real tomato flavor", and the Platfoot strain is reported to have
greater productivity and a smoother shape than the regular Yellow Brandywine.
Brown Berry   Open Pollinated  Cherry  Brown  Indeterminate  70 days

Indeterminate  78 days
Tomato Growers Supply 2007 catalog reads, "…this tomato has the appearance of a hollow bell
pepper but the delicious taste of a ral tomato.  Stuff with cold salads or bake like stuffed

only a few, easily removable seeds up around the core."
Burpee's Big Boy        Hybrid  Slicer  Red  Indeterminate  78 days

meaty fruits often weigh 1 pound or more, and feature smooth, blemish-resistant skins."  Totally

Cuore di Bue       Open Pollinated  Paste  Bicolored  Indeterminate  85 days
New to me this year.  When I saw this one featured in several catalogs, I

largest saucing/paste tomatoes I've found, it is a squat pear shape, measuring
almost 4 inches.  The dense flesh in nice, but they say it also has better
flavor than other sauce types.  Add the orange/red skin, and you have a real
eye and mouth catcher.

Gills All Purpose        Open Pollinated  Slicer  Red  Determinate  85 days
New to me this year, and another one that I saw in several catalogs.  First
bred by Gill Brothers Seed Company, Portland, OR, in 1947, I think this is
a must try one.  Being determinate, it will ripen most of its fruit all at once,
which would make it ideal for canning or sauces.  But they claim it has the
taste of a good sandwich or hamburger tomato, also.
Glacier        Open Pollinated  Salad  Red  Determinate  55 days
This very early salad-sized tomato has a remarkable sweet flavor for an
extra early type.  Developed in Sweden, Glacier has a small determinate

Golden Queen, USDA Strain       Heirloom  Slicer  Yellow  Indeterminate
75 days
Tomato Growers Supply 2005 catalog reads, "Distinctly different from
other Golden Queens commonly sold, this is from a strain obtained from the
USDA seed bank, and is the original Golden Queen described by the
seedsman Livingston in 1882.  Tomatoes are 8 to 12 ozs. and yellow with a
pronounced pink blush on the blossom end extending up toward the stem
end.  What makes this one better than the common solid yellow Golden
Queen is its superior flavor.  It is delicious, with a full tomato taste that is
also sweet and most pleasant."

concentrated clusters of 4-5.  An exceptional saucing variety, Golden Rave
also has just the right amount of juice and flavor galore for a superb eating
tomato."  The description and picture in another catalog would lead me to
think it is a large grape tomato rat
her than a roma.  We will just have to
try it and see.

and will still store for up to 3 months after that.  Plus, they claim these will
taste like a real tomato - even in January.  This might give us a reason to
look forward to winter!
